Summer Childcare

Summer childcare will begin the day Prince William Public Schools let out. Hours are 8am-6pm. If these hours do not meet your needs, please inquire and we may be able to make some adjustments.

Summer childcare will include plenty of fun while following a set schedule. Our home is set up to be accessible and safe for all ages. This encourages independence and confidence. We will be working on age-appropriate academic skills while having fun. For example, we may bake cookies together and learn about measurement, solid/liquid/gas, fire safety, shapes (cookie cutters) and colors.

An example of our day would include:

8am: arrival and morning meeting (to discuss plans for the day)

9am: light breakfast

10am: open play in the playroom. Our playroom has activities for varying age groups: imaginative play (dress-up, kitchen, dolls), dollhouse, Legos, blocks, puzzles, indoor exercise equipment (hopscotch, small slide, sit and spin, 1 pound weights), books, lights and sounds toys, various toy computers, shape sorters, etc.

11am: structured activity. Structured activity varies by day, but will include: cooking (we will be making our own bread and also preparing simple meals and snacks), ASL lesson (using the Gallaudet Curriculum), science experiment/lesson (via Math Science Nucleus), art activity (following Michael's passport curriculum), and yoga (in the style of Steve Ross).

12pm: lunch

1pm: quiet activity/naps (for those who nap) Quiet activities include coloring, playdoh, puzzles, 1 person games (for example, memory, rubix cube, etc).  Children may also work on summer bridge books or assigned summer work from school.

2pm: story time or silent reading for older children. Stories will include a structured lesson.

3pm: wake up (babies) and snack

4pm: outdoor play (chalk, bikes/neighborhood nature walk with permission from parents, chalk, check on garden, scavenger hunt, etc.)

5pm: wash-up and free play. Board games and library are open.
